Ball Of Light

Documentary Project

Ball of Light is a documentary inspired by the book The Uninvited 2, following a family’s UFO sighting in Matlock, Derbyshire. The project explores similar experiences from another family, using interviews and real locations to investigate these events.

As the sound designer and recordist, my work was largely field-based. I recorded audio on location, capturing interviews and natural ambience to ground the documentary in a real environment.

I focused on gathering clean dialogue while also recording surrounding sounds to build atmosphere. The aim was to keep the audio authentic and natural, while subtly enhancing the sense of mystery through ambient layers and texture.

The Film:

Behind the scenes

Behind-the-scenes footage is one of my favourite parts of the filming process. Things can get pretty hectic during a shoot, so it’s really nice to look back on those moments and see what we learned and how we’ve grown as filmmakers.

This footage comes from a four-day trip to Matlock, where we were filming and recording on location. It shows what it’s like working in a real environment—capturing sound, setting up equipment, and experimenting with audio in different spaces.

It also gives a glimpse into both the technical and creative sides of the project, and how our ideas developed as we worked through the trip.

Ball of Light Trailer

This trailer gives a short introduction to Ball of Light, hinting at the mystery surrounding the UFO sightings and the stories explored in the documentary. It focuses on building atmosphere and intrigue, using pacing and sound to draw the viewer in without revealing too much.

The aim was to create a sense of curiosity and tension, setting the tone for the full documentary while giving a glimpse into the real experiences and interviews behind it.
